New Graduate Certificate in Afterschool Education: Foundations Inc.’s Center for Afterschool Education and Arcadia University are partnering to launch a 15-credit online Graduate Certificate in Afterschool Education. The Certificate will equip out-of-school time leaders with the skills to develop and manage programming for afterschool and summer learning and to enhance the academic, social, and emotional needs of children and youth. Credits earned may be applied towards a Master’s degree in education.
Interactive, hands-on, and practical, the program will bring together educators from around the country to study best practices. A unique feature of this certificate program is the variety of online courses offered by Arcadia University that will allow participants to tailor the program to their individual needs. The Center for Afterschool Education will provide students ongoing online support as they apply course content to practice.
"Knowledgeable, prepared professionals are key to making afterschool a time for dynamic, engaged learning that helps children develop skills and talents, build essential relationships, expand their horizons, and succeed in school," says Claudia Weisburd, Executive Director of the Center for Afterschool Education. "Our goal is to help build systems of professional development nationwide so that afterschool leaders and providers truly become afterschool educators. This pioneering partnership with Arcadia University will significantly expand and deepen professional learning opportunities at all levels, and will strengthen the entire field of afterschool as an additional educational setting." The certificate program will begin with a three-day Institute, followed by three online courses and an applied learning project.
